The Flame Within

"All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16-17

—Prayers for Nancy Guthrie and Family—

From the Heart of One Christian Woman Praying for Another in Danger, and for Her Family.

There is something deeply troubling happening right now.

A real family is walking through what appears to be tragedy, trauma, and uncertainty — and instead of reverence, prayer, and restraint, we are watching news outlets and individuals use the situation for clicks, followers, attention, and personal platform growth.

Some are speculating.
Some are exaggerating.
Some are even sharing information that is unverified — or outright false.

This is not entertainment.
This is not content.
This is not a marketing opportunity.

Scripture is clear:

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.” — Philippians 2:3

“When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise.” — Proverbs 10:19

“If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless.” — James 1:26

There is wisdom in restraint. There is righteousness in refusing to capitalize on someone else’s pain.

What grieves me most is how quickly people consume tragedy, debate it, monetize it, and then grow bored — moving on to the next headline as if real lives are not forever changed.

We are called to something higher.

As Christians, we are called to guard our tongues, reject gossip, refuse exploitation, and choose prayer over speculation.

And we hold onto this truth:

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18

God is not bored.
He is near.
He is just.
He sees what is hidden.
He comforts those who are crushed.

Let us not participate in turning suffering into spectacle.

My prayers are with Nancy Guthrie and her family.
My prayers are with the FBI and law enforcement working diligently behind the scenes.
And my prayers are for truth to come fully to light — and for justice, clarity, and peace to prevail.

May we be people marked by compassion, conviction, humility, and reverence in moments like these.

-—- A Moment for Reflection ——

How does this story impact you?

Is it stirring anxiety or resurfacing past fears?

Have you ever endured a tragedy that felt hopeless — washed in desperation, confusion, or silence?

If so, pause.

Notice what this is bringing up in you.

Bring it before the Lord.

He is near to the brokenhearted — not only in headlines, but in your personal story too.

If this situation is triggering something unresolved, give yourself permission to step back from the noise. Pray. Process. Reach out for support if needed.

We do not have to consume suffering to prove we care.
Sometimes the holiest response is quiet prayer and guarded hearts.

Blessings, Crystal Ridlon, MA, LPC
