The Flame Within

"All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16-17

“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free…”

Freedom is one of the most misunderstood gifts we’ve been given.

It’s easy to think freedom means doing whatever we want… following every feeling, every impulse, every desire.
But Scripture gently redirects us.

Freedom is not found in indulging the flesh.
Freedom is found in loving well.

“Serve one another humbly in love… Love your neighbor as yourself.”

That’s the kind of freedom that brings life.
Not self-focused. Not reactive. Not driven by emotion.
But grounded. Anchored. Spirit-led.

Because the truth is… there is a battle happening within us.

The flesh pulls one way:
toward jealousy, frustration, comparison, selfish ambition, division.

The Spirit pulls another:
toward love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

And we feel that tension, don’t we?

The moment when we want to snap back.
The moment when comparison creeps in.
The moment when we feel justified in our frustration.

That’s the crossroads.

“Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”

Walking by the Spirit is not about perfection.
It’s about direction.

It’s choosing, moment by moment:
– to pause instead of react
– to extend grace instead of control
– to pursue peace instead of proving a point

Because when we belong to Christ, something has shifted.
We are no longer controlled by those old patterns.

“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”

Not rushing ahead.
Not lagging behind.
But walking with Him.

And when we do…
our lives begin to reflect something different.

Not chaos.
Not division.
But fruit.

Real, lasting, life-giving fruit.

Reflection:
Where do you feel the pull between flesh and Spirit right now?
What would it look like to pause and invite the Holy Spirit into that moment today?

“Lord, help me not just to be free… but to walk in Your Spirit.”

“Life by the Spirit”

Galatians 5:13-26
“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh rather, serve one anotherhumbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.
So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.”
