The Flame Within

"All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Healing is rarely linear.

It doesn’t move in neat steps or follow a clean, predictable path.

“The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.” (Proverbs 4:18)

Most of the time, healing is messy. It stalls. It circles back. It slows down. It asks us to sit in uncomfortable places longer than we want. Growth in relationships is often the same, slow, uneven, and requiring far more patience than we feel we have.

“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” (Ephesians 4:2)

This is where leaning on God becomes everything.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5)

When we lean on God, especially in seasons that feel stagnant or confusing, we are choosing trust over control. We are choosing faith when we don’t see immediate results.

There are seasons when it feels like nothing is changing. It’s hard to see the positive changes. Like we’re praying, trying, showing up, and we’re still not “there.” Feels like we may never “arrive”.

But Scripture reminds us:

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9)

Roots grow before fruit ever appears.

“I am the vine; you are the branches… apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)

Years later, sometimes much later, we look back and begin to recognize the fruit. We see a stronger faith. Healthier relationships. Deeper peace. Greater wisdom.

“Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.” (Psalm 126:5)

What once felt like sacrifice begins to look like planting.

“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.” (Zechariah 4:10)

Trusting God in the slow, unseen work is not wasted.

“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.” (Philippians 1:6)

Healing may not be clean or quick, but when we place our weight fully on God, it becomes meaningful, redemptive, and ultimately fruitful.

Reflection:

Where are you tempted to believe you are “behind” because your healing feels slow or messy?

“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” (Psalm 27:14)

What might it look like to lean on God rather than rush the process?

“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)

Are there small acts of faith or obedience you’ve been practicing that feel unseen right now?

“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.” (Luke 16:10)

How might God be growing roots beneath the surface, even if you cannot see fruit yet?

Take a moment today to thank God not just for the progress you can see, but for the quiet work He is doing that will bear fruit in time.
